Retreat Opportunities

Throughout my ministry here I have challenged the congregation to look for God in a mountaintop experience. A mountaintop experience is an experience where you come into the presence of God in a uniquely strong way. It gets its name due to the many mountaintop experiences in the Bible, especially Jesus’ transfiguration in Matthew 17:1-9. The key to having a mountaintop experience is to get away from the calendars, clocks, commitments, and especially cell phones of your everyday life, and go somewhere that God can have your undivided attention for a few days. One of the great retreat opportunities is the Walk to Emmaus. You don’t actually walk anywhere, but join Christians from all over the Louisville metro area for a wonderful weekend with God. It is the prayer of the Emmaus community in Louisville that each participant will have a new experience with Jesus. Most people speak of experiencing Jesus’ unconditional love in a whole new way. Retreat weekends are as follows, Oct. 6- 9, 2011 Men's Walk, Oct. 20-23, 2011 Women's Walk. Other Retreat opportunities to consider are listed below:

Marriage Encounter – This is for good marriages that want to get better. It is a locally run program. They hold retreat weekends throughout the year, with one scheduled Oct. 15-17, 2010. They are held at the Flaget Retreat Center in South Louisville. For more information search the web at Louisville Marriage Encounter.

Dunamis – sponsored by Presbyterian Reformed Ministries International, a growing reform movement in the Presbyterian Church. The Dunamis Project is a series of six events lasting four or five days and is designed to equip clergy and laity in the gifts and power of the Holy Sprit. Their events are held around the country. Beth Moore – Beth Moore is an inspiring Bible teacher, especially for women. She does in depth Bible seminars around the country. This is a great opportunity to travel with some friends and get a spiritual lift. For more information see www.bethmoore.org.

Promise Keepers - Retreat gatherings in sports arenas primarily for men and boys. The focus is to raise up Godly men, faithful husbands, loving fathers, and committed church men. Most events occur during the summer around the country. For more information see www.promisekeepers.org.

St. Meinrad Monastery – In Southern Indiana this Catholic monastery and retreat center offers guided prayers retreats.

Montreat Conference Center – a Presbyterian Conference Center in Montreat, North Carolina that offers great 5 day conferences to grow in many areas of faith life. For more information see www.montreat.org.

Women of Joy – A weekend retreat for women to hear inspiring speakers and worship with others. They usually sponsor a weekend in Louisville at Freedom Hall in early Spring.
