God Wants to Work A Miracle In Your Life

The birth narratives of Jesus are found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. In we read about Jesus’ birth and the visit from the shepherds. Have you ever wondered why Joseph put his very pregnant wife on a donkey, and made her travel the 70 miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem during the census. Only Joseph needed to go to fulfill the Roman law. They both were probably hoping that the baby would be born before Joseph had to leave. They knew Jesus was the messiah, but did anyone believe that explanation for the unmarried pregnant woman? She went because Joseph had to protect her. Bethlehem is going to be full of Joseph’s relatives, all of whom must have wondered about the purity of this young betrothed couple. At least until the shepherds come and testify to the royal birth as revealed by a choir of angels. The Bible says after the Shepherds left Jesus they “glorified and praised God for all they had heard and seen.” What a fantastic story they told. God had worked a miracle in their lives.

Never forget that the greatest miracle of all is the miracle of faith. For us to have faith we must give up something that is very precious to us. We must give up our will to God’s will, and confess we need a Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In South America an evangelist was holding a crusade. Near the end of the crusade he challenged each person there to ask somebody to come to the crusade for the final day. A twelve year old girl was so excited to do this. She thought she would invite the first person that sits next to her on the bus ride home. But nobody sat next to her on the bus. When she got home she decided to open the phone book and call the first person she points to. She dials the number, the phone rings and rings, then somebody finally picked up. The little girl froze. She didn’t know what to say, and the man on the other line kept saying hello with a negative ring to his voice. Finally, she started singing “Amazing Grace,” and then she started to talk to the man. She said her speech about the crusade.

The man then started crying and said, “Right before you called, my wife and I had just poured a lethal amount of poison in our alcohol, and we were going to commit suicide because we both lost our jobs. We have no money to pay our bills, and we lost all our will to live. We said if God is real he will stop us.” So the people ended up meeting her the next day at the crusade and they confessed their faith in Jesus Christ and their lives were changed.

God wants to work the miracle of faith in your life. Maybe God already has. What is your faith story? I have three homework assignments for you this week. All three will let you witness a miracle in your life, or relive one that has already happened. First, ask someone to tell their conversion story. Whenever I do this I usually hear an amazing story of faith that reminds me of God’s power in our lives.

Second, look for a way to serve someone else. Our Christmases become so absorbed with what we want, need to do, and places we have to go. The chance to serve someone else will remind us why God became human and brought hope and salvation to our world.

Third, pray for someone that doesn’t have faith. Make a commitment to pray for them for as long as it takes for them to believe in Jesus Christ. If the greatest miracle of all is faith, then the next greatest miracle is to be used by God to bring faith to another. Pray, help other people, and share your stories of faith. If you don’t have your own story, ask God today into your heart.
